Project Description:
The SAIC Corporate Offices were designed and constructed in a very tight time frame facilitated by the fast track provisions implemented by Harford County, Maryland.  Notice-to-Proceed for the design was issued in November 2001 and the shell was completed on August 15, 2002.  The building is organized around a central entrance court with wings extending in each direction.  The wings are articulated by breaking the front facade into bays and extending sections of the facade higher.  Mechanical equipment is located behind these wall extensions and rooftop equipment screens, designed to look like walls are located perpendicular to the higher wall sections.  With this technique were are able to give the appearance of modulating the building mass which gives rhythm to the building without incurring the expense of bearing walls within the building.  The rear glass walls overlook a designed green space of existing trees and landscaping.
