Project Description:
Father Martin’s Ashley is a rehabilitation facility for the treatment of substance abuse. The complex is located on the Chesapeake Bay in a peaceful area of Harford County. While designing this building it was important that we kept in mind the architecture of the existing historic structure, also a part of the facility. Abraham Hall, which contains a lecture hall, archives, and a gift shop is designed to complement the existing buildings and create an edge to a pedestrian courtyard for the use of the residents.  Before the construction of Abraham Hall and the associated site work, vehicular traffic was routed directly through the heart of the campus.  The new site plan arrangement allows for easier ingress and egress to the site and parking lots.  It also creates a pedestrian only zone between all the buildings on the campus.  A new courtyard, which overlooks the Chesapeake Bay has been developed between Abraham Hall and the existing chapel as the focal point of pedestrian circulation.
