Project Description:
The middle school building is  a 16,000 SF addition to an existing facility.  The existing complex consisted of a collection of separate buildings and additions constructed over a period of 40 years.  The design of the new middle school building is a separate structure which creates a needed identity for the middle school students as separate and distinct from the lower grades.  The building also serves as a backdrop for several courtyard spaces which unite the various buildings into a true campus.  The round atrium commons area is the main design element of the middle school entrance courtyard and also functions as a multipurpose space.  A covered arcade connects the two entrances of the middle school and forms a gracious edge to the campus courtyard.

The building provides much needed general classroom space, as well as computer labs, art room and a music room. These various classroom spaces are connected by a raised atrium corridor with a fountain as the feature element in the entrance lobby.
